We believe that the Church exists to achieve the following four objectives.
John 19:19-22
1 Cor. 10:31
Ephesians 1:3-14
Phil. 2:6-11
Section 1: Exaltation- Exalting Christ
The Church is a body of people who have been redeemed by the death of Christ. In recognition that Jesus Christ is our Saviour and Lord, we meet together to exalt Him as God. He is the Head of the Church and the one to whom full allegiance is due. Our primary objective is to do all things for His glory and to worship Him individually and corporately.
I Cor. 12-14
Ephesians 4:11-16
II Timothy 2:2; 4:2
Titus 2:15; 3:14
Hebrews 10:24-25
Section 2: Edification – Edifying Itself
The desire of God for each of His children is that they would demonstrate spiritual growth evidenced by the transformation of their life. This requires a strong program of Bible teaching and personal discipleship. The church functions to develop spiritual disciplines in the life of believers so that they may develop and grow; to provide instructions from the Scriptures that result in godly wisdom; to equip the Christian for service within the body of Christ; and prepare one for ministry in the world.
Matthew 9:35-38
Matthew 28:19-20
Romans 10:14-17
I Cor. 9:16-23
Colossians 4:3-6
Acts 13:2-3
II Cor. 9
Acts 14:27
Section 3: Evangelization – Evangelizing
The Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20 remains as a responsibility of the Church. It is our purpose to share the Good News of Jesus Christ as widely and effectively as possible. We view this as a mandate for local and global evangelism through personal witness in the local community and missionary endeavours around the world.
- Sending forth missionaries, both home and abroad.
- Praying for missionaries and supporting them financially.
- Welcoming them back on furloughs.
Galatians 5:13-15
I Thes. 5:11
James 2:14-17
I John 3:11-20
Romans 12:4-21
Section 4: Expression – Expressing Christ’s Love
The fellowship of believers as Christ’s own body involves a commitment to one another. Christians are individually gifted by God the Holy Spirit for the benefit of the whole body. We desire to encourage each other in the development and use of these abilities, instilling in each member a servant heart. In addition, the church must demonstrate to the world the compassion of Christ. We must serve the world as its conscience and an example of the love of Christ had for His world. Evangelism, not social action is the primary objective of the Christian in the World, but social action is an important expression of the character of our Lord.
